Preservation work on this $12.17 million project on the I-279 Fort Duquesne Bridge and associated Route 65 ramps in the City of Pittsburgh began in June of 2026. Work will include steel repairs, spot painting, expansion dam and joint replacements, deck repairs, drainage improvements, deck and barrier sealing, pavement marking and delineator updates, and other miscellaneous construction activities. The majority of the work that will impact the roadways will occur during off-peak hours and non-major event calendar days but will require some overnight and weekend closures and detours, a one-week closure and detour of the I-279 left-hand off-ramp to North Shore (Exit 1B) and an anticipated two-week closure and detour of westbound Reedsdale Street. Other offline work is anticipated to occur outside of major events.
The project is anticipated to conclude in the fall of 2027. Swank Construction Company, LLC is the prime contractor.

The project will require various detours for the different stages of work.
Note: Closures will be phased and will not all occur simultaneously.
Traffic on Route 65 North:
- Take Exit 1B – North Shore
- Take Exit to Fontanella St
- Turn Left onto Ridge Ave to I-279, US 19 – West End Bridge
- Continue onto Fulton St
- Turn Left onto Western Ave

- Take Exit 69B South to US 19 TRUCK and Route 51 – Uniontown
- Take Exit for US 19 South - Dormont – Downtown
- Take Exit for Downtown or South Side and continue into the Liberty Tunnel
- Continue onto the Liberty Bridge and follow signs for I-579 North, to I-279 and Route 28.
- Exit to I-579 North, to I-279 and Route 28.
- Continue onto Veteran's Bridge.
