The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, will start an improvements project on a stretch of Route 4013 (East Chestnut Avenue) Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in the City of Altoona, Blair County.
Upgrading of traffic signals will start on Tuesday in the Juniata section of Altoona at the intersection of Route 4013 (North Fourth Avenue) and North Eighth Street and will continue southward toward the intersection of Route 4017 (Juniata Gap Road) as weather permits. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers with single-lane closures. Minimal delays are to be expected and motorists should plan accordingly. PennDOT urges caution around equipment and personnel, and warns drivers to stay alert, drive slowly and avoid all distractions while traveling through the construction zone.
Along with the work on Route 4013 (East Chestnut Avenue), this project also includes the same improvements to be made on Route 4009 (Seventh Street) and Route 4015 (Fourth Street). This will consist of milling and resurfacing, new pavement markings, signs, and guide rails. Also planned are the design and construction of ADA ramps, and other miscellaneous work.
Overall, this work is part of a larger improvements project at the Route 764 (Sixth Avenue) and Seventh Street intersection. However, this portion will not take place until the 2024 construction season.
The $4.3 million project is weather dependent and is expected to be completed by mid-September 2024.
