Lane Restrictions Planned on I-81 in Cumberland County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that nighttime lane restrictions are scheduled to begin on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County so pavement testing can be performed for a future rehabilitation project. Additionally, lane restrictions are anticipated on I-81 the weekend of April 19-22 and May 3-5 so concrete pavement patching and asphalt paving can be performed on a section of the interstate.

Weather permitting, nighttime lane closures will begin the night of Sunday, April 14, for concrete pavement testing. These restrictions will be in place from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM Sunday through Thursday nights for approximately five weeks. Restrictions will be in place in both the northbound and southbound directions of I-81 from Mile 47.2 to Mile 52.2., which is approximately from Route 34/Hanover Street to just north of the Route 11 interchange.

Weekend lane closures for concrete patching and asphalt paving are schedule from 9:00 PM Friday, April 19, to 6:00 AM Monday, April 22, and during the same hours Friday May 3, to Monday, May 5, from Mile 53.5 to Mile 55, which is about midway between the Route 11 and Route 114 exits. Work will be in the right lanes of I-81 during the first weekend and in the left lanes the second weekend. Rain dates are set for April 26 to April 29, and May 10 to May 12.

This work is part of a 12.85-mile resurfacing project that consists of milling, base replacement, concrete pavement patching, minor drainage, ADA ramps, paving, traffic counter site repair and other miscellaneous construction on Interstate 81 from Route 15/Enola in East Pennsboro Township, to Route 581/Lambs Gap Road in Hampden Township.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the prime contractor on this $24.5 million project.
