Detour Updated for California Road (Route 1019) Bridge in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County

Detour will be shorter than the one posted last September

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the detour for the California Road (Route 1019) bridge in Lancaster County near the Berks County line is being updated today. The new detour will be shorter than the one currently in place.

The bridge, which spans an unnamed tributary to the Conestoga River just north of Route 23 (New Holland Pike) in Caernarvon Township, was closed to traffic last September due to damage discovered during a bridge inspection. A detour was implemented at the time of closure.

A new detour will be in place today that is shorter than the initial detour. This detour will use Valley View Road, Glick Road, and Route 23.

A replacement project is expected to begin later this summer. An updated release will be issued prior to the start of work.

Doli Construction Corporation of Chalfont, PA, is the contractor on this $562,093 project. All work is expected to be completed by October 28, 2025.
