Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing a single-lane restriction is underway on northbound Interstate 579 in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
A single-lane restriction has been implemented on northbound I-579 over the PennDOT facility near Progress Street located from the Veterans Bridge to just north of the Route 28 off-ramp. The left lane and shoulder of northbound I-579 will be closed until further notice. Northbound I-579 will reopen to two lanes of shifted traffic when weather allows line removal and restriping to occur. The northbound I-579 off-ramp to northbound Route 28 will remain open to traffic.
Additionally when weather permits, traffic shifts will occur on southbound I-579 to accommodate two lanes of traffic.
These restrictions are in place to accommodate further analysis on piers that carry northbound and southbound I-579. During recent inspection activities, crews found significant pier deterioration and out of an abundance of caution, the department has closed I-579 lanes while analysis continues.
