Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 10 is announcing the opening of the application period for paid summer internships and the summer employment program.
PennDOT District 10 serves Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson Counties and offers multiple summer roles for college students and non-students to gain valuable hands-on experience.

The STAMPP (Systematic Technique to Analyze and Manage Pennsylvania's Pavements) Program offers students real-world experience working independently on a two-person crew inspecting drainage, shoulder drop-offs, pavement conditions, and guide rail for damage along state roadways.
Students must have completed their first year in a two-year Associate Degree Program or four-year bachelor's degree program, be in good academic standing, be 18 years old or older and hold a valid PA driver's license. Majors in Engineering, Science or Technology fields are encouraged but not required. Positions are available for Engineering, Non-engineering and Scientific and Technical students. The PennDOT Highway Archaeological Survey Team (PHAST) provides the opportunity to actively participate in research related to the management, study, and preservation of archaeological sites and historic resources impacted by transportation projects. Additionally, students will gain exposure to various job skills and employment prospects in Cultural Resource Management through seminars and rotations in Geographic Information System, curation, archaeological field work, project delivery, consulting, environmental review, and National Register evaluation. Students will participate in projects across the Commonwealth.
Students must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time basis in a two- or four-year post-secondary education program for the fall semester. Students must be in good academic standing and be at least 18 years old and hold a valid PA driver's license. Previous exposure to GIS, database management, and archaeological, historical, or historic preservation coursework and field experience in the Middle Atlantic Region is preferred but not required. Majors in Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Resource Management, Historic Preservation, Preservation Planning, History, Architectural History, Geography/Geographic Information, or American Studies are required. Engineering Internships provide hands-on experience and exposure to various engineering projects and processes. Engineering Interns will learn roadway, pavement, drainage and bridge designs; construction and materials testing; traffic systems design and operations; or maintenance asset management methodologies.
Students must be enrolled full-time in college (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits or nine or more graduate credits) or part-time (registered for a minimum of six credits) or enrolled part or full-time for the next semester by the start of the internship in an applicable major including Civil, Construction, Environmental or Structural Engineering. Or have completed the first year of a two-year associate degree or four-year bachelor's degree program. The Summer Employment Program (Student and Non-student) provides support to various county maintenance tasks.
Student positions support county maintenance activities such as flagging traffic in work zones, assisting in the garage and custodial services at rest areas, and/or other seasonal maintenance duties. Students must have completed their first year in a two-year Associate Degree Program or four-year bachelor's degree program, be in good academic standing, be 18 years if age or older and hold a valid PA driver's license. Non-student summer positions include:
Highway Maintenance Workers perform manual labor duties on highway maintenance and construction projects, assist sign crews with tasks such as erecting and maintaining traffic signs and delineators, and related tasks at work sites along the highway. To be eligible, candidates must have the ability to lift and move heavy objects of a reasonable weight.
