PennDOT plans to progress a project to improve the operations of Route 252 at the U.S. 1 ramps and to install Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and associated fiber optic and electric infrastructure along U.S. 1. The proposed ITS system improvements extend approximately 10 miles along U.S. 1 from Schoolhouse Lane (Concord Township) to just west of Weymouth Road (Springfield Township). The project is located in the Boroughs of Chester Heights and Media, and the Townships of Concord, Marple, Middletown, Springfield, and Upper Providence in Delaware County.
Intersection improvements at the Route 252/U.S. 1 interchange will include the removal of the raised concrete median to add a designated left-turn lane from Route 252 to U.S. 1. This will also include lane restriping, one new mast arm with new signal heads, and signal adjustments.
The proposed ITS deployment includes:
- 14 CCTV (Closed-Circuit TV) cameras.
- 4 Changeable Messaging Signs (CMS).
- Underground fiber optic line.
