Nighttime Lane Restrictions Next Week on I-81 in Dauphin County

Containment system to be installed on WB Route 322 bridge over I-81

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that nighttime lane restrictions are planned for next week on Interstate 81 in Dauphin County. These restrictions will be in place so a containment system for bridge painting can be installed on the westbound Route 22/322 bridge over the interstate.

Weather permitting, there will be lane restrictions in both directions of I-81 between Exit 67 (Route 22/230) and Exit 66 (Front Street) from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the nights of Monday, October 2, and Tuesday, October 3. The right two lanes will be closed Monday night, and the left two lanes will be closed Tuesday night.

This work is part of a project that includes bridge preservation work, approach pavement work, sign and sign structure replacements, and other miscellaneous construction on I-81 from Progress Avenue in the City of Harrisburg to the Susquehanna River at the George N. Wade Bridge in Susquehanna Township, and on Route 22 from Elmerton Avenue to about 0.5 miles north of I-81 in the city.

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones for their safety as well as for the safety of the road crews.

The contractor continues repairs to bridge substructures. There are no traffic impacts for this work.

Deblin, Inc., of Mechanicsburg, PA, is the prime contractor on this $9,884,046 project. This project is expected to be completed by October 27, 2023.
