Philadelphia, PA -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge construction will close a section of southbound 30th Street and reduce westbound Market Street to one lane at 30th Street Station in Center City Philadelphia beginning Wednesday, March 25. The work is part of a $148.9 million project to rehabilitate the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak and Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway), the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad.
Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Wednesday, March 25, through approximately Monday, June 1, southbound 30th Street will be closed and detoured between JFK Boulevard and Market Street.
- Wednesday, March 25, through approximately Monday, June 1, westbound Market Street will be reduced to one lane between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street.
30th Street will remain open for limited access to the west portico of 30th Street Station.
Through motorists and motorists traveling to Market Street using 30th Street will be directed to turn right onto JFK Boulevard to access Market Street near 32nd Street.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling along the detour route or through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.
PennDOT is replacing Market Street bridges over Amtrak and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), redecking the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River, and replacing the Market Street bridge over the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad on the east side of the river.
