Temporary Traffic Signals on Route 44 in Watson Township, Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that temporary traffic signals will be installed tomorrow on Route 44 between the intersections of Furnace Run Road. (T-631) and Route 973 in Watson Township, Lycoming County, due to work on an embankment stabilization project.

On Thursday, May 30, the contractor, HRI, Inc. will install a temporary signal approximately 1.5 mile north of the intersection with Furnace Run Road and a temporary signal south of the intersection with Route 973. The signals will be set to flash yellow to alert motorists of the new signal placement. Motorists can expect minor traffic impacts where work is being performed.

On Monday, June 10, 2024, the signals will become fully operational. Motorists can expect travel delays due to single lane conditions controlled by temporary traffic signals.

HRI, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $11.8 million embankment stabilization project on Route 44 between Torbert Lane and Tombs Run in Watson Township. Work includes stabilizing the existing embankment using a combination of soil nailing, wire mesh, and rock armoring. Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Traffic will be maintained using a single lane with a temporary traffic signal. Work began in the spring of 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2025.
