Portion of State Street to be Closed as Work Continues on the Central Bayfront Parkway Project

As work on the Central Bayfront Parkway Project moves into Phase 2B, State Street will be closed from Second Street to the parkway starting July 21, 2025.

As work on the Central Bayfront Parkway Project moves into Phase 2B, State Street will be closed from Second Street to the parkway starting July 21, 2025.

The closure will also restrict access from the Bayfront Parkway (Route 4034) onto the south or downtown side of State Street.

A vehicle detour will be posted using Holland Street, East Third Street, and the Bayfront Parkway. It is expected to be in place for the remainder of the summer.

A pedestrian detour will be posted using West Third Street, Holland Street, and East Front Street.

To accommodate the change in traffic patterns in connection with the closure, temporary traffic signals, and push-button pedestrian signals will be installed at the intersection of East Third Street and French Street, and the intersection of East Third Street and Holland Street. The pedestrian push-button system at the intersection of Holland Street and Bayfront Parkway will be updated into an audible component. These systems will remain in place for future work phases as well.

Drivers can continue to access all businesses on the waterfront side of the parkway by using the Holland Street and East Front Street, or Sassafras Street Extension and East Front Street Extension.

Temporary pedestrian access along State Street is planned for August 22 to 24, 2025 to accommodate the expected increase in foot traffic during the Tall Ships Erie Festival.

The State Street closure is necessary for the installation of drainage pipes under the parkway for the construction of a grade-separated intersection at State Street and the Bayfront Parkway.
