Overnight Closure and Detour of U.S. 219 for Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Richland Township, Cambria County, Set for April 28 and April 29

 

    

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers of the planned overnight closure and detour of U.S. 219 under the Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) in Richland Township, Cambria County, on Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29, 2026.  

During the week of April 27, the contractor will implement short-term overnight closures for bridge demolition and beam erection.

U.S. 219 southbound lanes will be closed from 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 28, until 5:00 Wednesday, April 29, and U.S. 219 northbound lanes will be closed from 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 29, to 5:00 AM Thursday, April 30.

The U.S. 219 overnight detours will use Galleria Drive, Solomon Run Road, Airport Road, Frankstown Road, Ragers Hill Road, and U.S. 219 at the Sidman Exit.

Before and after the overnight closures, U.S. 219 under the Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) bridge will remain under single lane restrictions both northbound and southbound. Mt. Airy Drive remains closed with traffic using a 2.9-mile detour on Route 3033 (Solomon Run Road), Route 3031 (Galleria Drive) and Oakridge Drive.

J.F.Shea Construction, Inc., Mount Pleasant, Pa., is the lead contractor for the $2,257,170 Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) over U.S. 219 Bridge Rehabilitation Project, which involves the complete replacement of the bridge superstructure (the deck, girders, and beams above the substructure) and repairs to the substructure (the columns, abutments and/or foundation that carries the bridge load). Minor approach roadway paving to tie into the structure along with guide rail updates will be included. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2026.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Drivers should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
