The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the potential for lengthy delays from the movement of superloads consisting of windmill blades through Bedford and Somerset counties this week.
Destined for northeastern Somerset County, the superloads are scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, Wednesday, February 25, and Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Superloads consisting of windmill blades will leave Maryland at 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 24; 9:00 AM And 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 25, and 8:00 AM Thursday, February 26. The windmill blades deliveries will use U.S. 220/Interstate 99 (I-99) to Exit 3 – Route 56 Johnstown Cessna exit – to Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road) west to the destination.
Drivers should remain alert for these slow-moving, two-lane operations and use alternate routes when possible. Traveling both the posted speed limit and slower as needed, superloads will occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass.
Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.
