Highland North Wind Farm Project

Windmill Blade Deliveries Scheduled for April 6 Through Cambria and Somerset Counties

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising drivers of the potential for lengthy delays from the movement of windmill blades through Cambria and Somerset counties this week.

Two windmill blades, destined for the Highland North Wind Farm near Beaverdale, Cambria County, are scheduled to leave from a Maryland facility at 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM Monday, April 6, 2026. The deliveries will use U.S. 219 through Somerset and Cambria counties before taking Route 869 (Locus Street) and Route 160 (Mill Road) to the wind farm.

Drivers should remain alert for these slow-moving, two-lane operations and use alternate routes when possible. Traveling both the posted speed limit and slower as needed, these superloads (vehicles exceeding 201,000 pounds, 160 feet in length, or 16 feet in width) will occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass.  Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
