The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of a project to increase safety and improve traffic flow at the intersection of U.S. 22 and Route 3045 (Chickaree Hill Road) beginning today, July 15, 2025 in Jackson Township, Cambria County.
Starting Tuesday, traffic on U.S. 22 will be reduced to one lane for approximately five miles through the work area. The contractor, Plum Contracting, Greensburg, PA, will start construction of a right-turn lane on the westbound side of U.S. 22 where it intersects with Route 3045 (Chickaree Hill Road).
This work is being done to increase safety at the intersection due to the high volume of truck traffic that moves through that area and is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2025.
Crews will also install a new traffic signal at the intersection. The signal work is expected to be completed by May of 2026.
Overall cost for this project is $1.1 million.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
