Daylight and Overnight Short-term Lane closures to Continue on Interstate 99 between the Median Cross-over near Newry and 17th Street Exit in Blair County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of short-term lane closures on Interstate 99 (I-99) from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street Interchange in Blair County, beginning the week of October 27, 2025

From Monday, October 27, to Friday, November 7, 2025, single-lane restrictions in both the northbound and southbound lanes, alternating between travel and passing lanes, will be in place during daylight hours on I-99 northbound from the Cross Keys Exit to the Plank Road Exit, between mile markers 26 and 32. Minor delays are expected for line paining and bridge repair work.

From October 27 to November 7, single-lane restrictions during overnight hours (8:00 PM to 6:00 AM) will be in place on I-99 northbound for shoulder work between Cross Keys interchange and 17th Street. Drainage work on 17th Street will be performed during overnight hours.

During the same dates, single-lane restrictions will be in place during daylight hours from the Cross Keys interchange to the median cross-over near Newry for bridge repairs and permanent paint application.

From Monday, November 3, to Friday, November 7, sholder rumble strip installation during moving operations will be conducted from the median cross-over near Newry northbound to north of the 17th Street Exit.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., New Enterprise, Pa., is the contractor for the $23,500,000 project, which includes improvements along 10-miles of I-99 from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street exit in Blair County.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.   

 Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
