The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the potential for delays on Interstate 99 (I-99) in Blair County, including overnight single-lane restrictions, and daytime delays on the bridges near Tyrone, Blair County and at the I-99-Route 56 interchange near Cessna, Bedford County, over the next two weeks.
During the week beginning Monday, September 29, I-99 will have a single-lane restriction overnight starting at 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM the following morning in both the northbound and southbound lanes from the Cross Keys Interchange to the 17th Street Interchange.
During daytime hours, single-lane restrictions will be in place on I-99 southbound and northbound near Tyrone interchange for barrier work and patching.
Single-lane restrictions will also be in place at the I-99-Route 56 interchange near Cessna, Bedford County, for concrete patching and bridge deck repair. The work in Bedford County was recently added to the I-99 Newry to Tyrone project.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., New Enterprise, Pa., is the contractor for the $23,500,000 project, which includes improvements along 10-miles of I-99 from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street exit in Blair County. The work is scheduled to be completed in September of 2025.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
