Lane restrictions on EB Route 322, Chambers Hill Road and Grayson Road
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today there will be traffic restrictions next week at the Route 322/Chambers Hill Road Intersection Improvement project in Swatara Township, Dauphin County.
Weather permitting, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the nights of Monday, November 27, through Thursday, November 30, the contractor will begin excavating to widen Chambers Hill Road in advance of paving for a future traffic shift.
The right lane of eastbound Route 322 will be closed about 1,000 feet prior to the intersection with Chambers Hill Road. Chambers Hill Road will be restricted, as well. Flaggers will direct traffic through the intersection during work hours.
Paving is tentatively scheduled for the following week, Sunday, December 3, through Thursday, December 7, during the same hours and with the same traffic restrictions.
During daylight hours on Tuesday, November 28, Grayson Road will be reduced to one lane from Witmer Road to Milroy Road so paving can be performed for a future traffic switch. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work area.
Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.
This work is part of the reconstruction of the intersection of Route 322 with Grayson Road and Chambers Hill Road in the township. The contractor will pave the shoulders of westbound Route 322 from Bridge Road to Witmer Drive to strengthen them for future traffic shifts.
The Route 322 signalized intersection with Grayson Road and Chambers Hill Road (Route 3006) is being reconstructed to four approaches with left-turn lanes removed from Route 322.
One through lane will be added in each direction of Route 322. Eastbound Route 322 left turns will be replaced with a new jug handle and signal at Witmer Road. Westbound Route 322 left turns will be replaced with a new roundabout and bypass lanes at the intersection with Milroy Road and Grayson Road.
Construction of three retaining walls will accommodate the widening and geometry, as well as the addition of dynamic message signs, stormwater management basins, drainage, guiderail, barrier, signs and upgraded pavement markings, and other miscellaneous construction.
This project is expected to be completed by August 18, 2027. J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the prime contractor on this $38,561,349 project.
