Open to Traffic: SB I-83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge Over Susquehanna River Between Dauphin and Cumberland Counties

Repairs complete; detour lifted

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the southbound Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Dauphin and Cumberland counties is open to traffic.

Southbound I-83 was closed Friday night at the Eisenhower Interchange so contractor JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, could perform multiple repairs on the bridge. Work included expansion joint repairs, concrete deck repairs, and seal replacements. Plans initially called for the bridge to be closed until 6:00 AM Monday, December 18, but the contractor was able to complete the repairs by this morning.

A detour associated with the closure has been lifted.
