Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a bridge inspection is scheduled to begin next week on the Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River in the City of Harrisburg.
Inspectors plan use an inspection crane from the roadway. Weather permitting, there will be daytime lane and shoulder restrictions implemented next week on northbound and southbound I-83 South Bridge Monday, November 6, through Sunday, November 12.
The northbound I-83 right lane will be closed from 9 AM to 2 PM Monday. The southbound I-83 right shoulder will be closed from 9 AM to 2 PM Monday to Friday and 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Saturday and Sunday. Three travel lanes in each direction and all on/off ramps will remain open each of the days.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the inspection crews.
There will be additional lane and shoulder closures to be announced for the following week.
