Resurfacing Project to Resume on I-81 in Franklin County

Harrisburg, PA The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a resurfacing project on Interstate 81 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, is scheduled to resume next week. This project extends from the Maryland state line to Mile 6 in the Greencastle area.

Weather permitting, work will begin the night of Sunday, March 15. The contractor will work nightly from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM in the southbound direction from approximately Mile Marker 3.5 to the Maryland state line. There will be lane restrictions during work hours.

Work will be in the southbound direction for several weeks, then will switch to the northbound direction.

Periodic ramp detours will be implemented during this project. The first ramps to be closed will be the Exit 3 on and off ramps, which are expected to be closed during the first two weeks of construction. Only one ramp will be closed at a time. Detours will be in place.

Southbound I-81 to Exit 3 off-ramp detour: Drivers should exit at Exit 5, then take Route 16 (Baltimore Street) west to Route 11 south to Exit 3. This detour is expected to be in place during the first week of construction.

Exit 3 on-ramp to southbound I-81 detour: Drivers should take Route 11 south to Route 163 (Mason Dixon Road) then take Route 163 west to southbound I-81. This detour is expected to be in place during the second week of construction.

This project consists of milling, concrete patching, asphalt resurfacing, guiderail updates, signage, and pavement markings on northbound and southbound I-81 from the Maryland State Line to Milepost 6, including ramps located within the project limits.
