Work is associated with the future Middletown Road Safety and Congestion Improvement project.
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that field work is planned for next week on Middletown Road (Route 2003) in Dauphin County. Geotechnical boring crews will be conducting drilling operations in the roadway and shoulder embankment areas within the limits of the future Middletown Road Improvements project in Hummelstown Borough, and Derry and Londonderry townships.
Weather permitting, this work will be performed from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM starting Tuesday, January 20, and continuing through the week at various locations on Middletown Road between Willow Street in Hummelstown Borough to Swatara Creek Road (Route 2004) in Derry Township.
As part of this work, motorists may experience single-lane restrictions that will include flagging, lane shifts, and shoulder closures at select locations in both the northbound and southbound directions of Middletown Road during work hours.
Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.
The Middletown Road project primarily addresses the safety and efficiency of the corridor through a combination of roadway widening, access control measures, and targeted intersection improvements. These efforts are proposed to address current traffic issues and prepare the corridor for future demands.
The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, and construction is anticipated to take place during the 2028-2029 construction seasons, subject to all approvals, environmental clearances, and funding availability.
