Contractor to close section of Route 11 and Route 34 for approximately one week
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a section of Route 11 (Hanover Street) is scheduled to be closed in Carlisle Borough, Cumberland County, so a contractor can complete the construction of a roundabout and perform roadway approach reconstruction.
Route 11 will be closed to through traffic from Route 641 (High Street) to Clay Street. A section of Route 34 that runs concurrently with Route 11 from Route 641 to Kerrs Avenue will also be closed. Traffic will be detoured.
Weather permitting, these closures will be in place from Monday, October 6, to Monday, October 13.
Signed detours will be in place. Southbound Route 34 will take K Street west to Pitt Street south to Route 11 north to Route 34. Northbound Route 34 will take Route 641 east to East Street north to Clay Street north to Route 34.
Northbound Route 11 traffic will use Route 641 east to East Street north to Route 11 north. Southbound Route 11 car traffic will use East Street south to Bedford Street south to Route 641 west to Route 11 south.
A truck detour for southbound Route 11 will use Interstate 81 south from Exit 52 to Exit 49 (Route 641/High Street) west to Route 11.
This work is associated with the Carlisle Connectivity Project, which includes streetscape improvements on Route 11 (Hanover Street) from North Street to McBride Avenue, Route 34 (Carlisle Springs Road) from Route 11 to Hamilton Street, Fairground Avenue from Penn Street to the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks, drainage upgrades, the construction of a roundabout at the 5-legged intersection of Route 11 (Hanover Street), Fairground Avenue and Penn Street, and improvements to the Route 11/Route 34 intersection, including a realignment of the intersection and the installation of a traffic signal.
Rogele, Inc., of Harrisburg is the contractor on this $7,464,007 project.
