Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plans display regarding the Route 1003 Section 029 (Quarry Road / Bushong Road) bridge rehabilitation project in Lancaster County.
This project involves the repair and rehabilitation of the Route 1003 (Quarry Road / Bushong Road) bridge over the Conestoga River in Manheim and Upper
Leacock townships. The purpose of this project is to provide a continued safe and efficient crossing on Route 1003 over the Conestoga River.
The existing structure was built in 1952 and is a three-span non-composite steel I-Beam bridge supported on reinforced concrete abutments and piers. The bridge length is 285 feet and has a curb-to-curb width of 24 feet.
The proposed rehabilitation work includes full bridge deck replacement, while preserving the existing steel beams. The roadway and bridge will be slightly widened to accommodate 11-foot lanes and 2.5-foot shoulders, providing a 27-foot curb-to-curb width.
Route 1003 will be detoured during construction.
The project is currently in design, and construction is expected to occur during the 2027 construction season.
A digital version of the project plans and information are available to view online with public comments accepted through January 16, 2026.
Information, including bridge plans and an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website, PennDOT District 8, clicking Projects Near You listed on the left side of the page, then the District 8 Projects, and choosing Quarry Road & Bushong Road Bridge Rehabilitation.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project.
