Paving Scheduled at Night Next Week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that milling and paving operations will take place at night next week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, August 14, through Friday, August 18, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, weeknight lane closures will be in place on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between 9th Street and Interstate 76; and
  • Monday, August 14, through Friday, August 18, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, weeknight lane closures will be in place on northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between I-76 and 9th Street.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

During any nighttime operations, PennDOT's contractor will compete milling and paving of the entire U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) on both sides of the substantially completed $95.5 million project to rehabilitate the Wayne Avenue Viaduct between 17th Street and Fox Street. 

The Cayuga Street ramp to southbound U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will remain closed until completion of the "punch list" work this fall. 

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the bridge improvement project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
