King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will occur next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County under an $80.6 million project to rehabilitate pavement and several bridges on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, October 2, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between the West Chester/Highland Avenue (Exit 3) and Route 352/Route 320 (Exit 6) interchanges;
- Tuesday, October 3, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between the Interstate 476 (Exit 7) and Route 420 (Exit 9A-B) interchanges;
- Wednesday, October 4, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Route 352/Route 320 (Exit 6) and West Chester/Highland Avenue (Exit 3) interchanges;
- Wednesday, October 4, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between the Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 291 East (Exit 10) interchanges;
- Thursday, October 5, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12) and Route 291 East (Exit 10) interchanges; and
- Friday, October 6, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between the Route 291 East (Exit 10) and Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12).
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.
Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.
Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
