Roadway Reconstruction Continues through Mid-June on Township Line Road in East Norriton, Whitpain Townships

Long-term lane closures on Germantown Pike expected to begin June 17

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that ongoing roadway reconstruction will close a section of Township Line Road through Tuesday, June 16, under a $55 million project to improve, widen and reconstruct approximately 1.8 miles of the highway in Norristown and East Norriton and Whitpain townships, Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times on the eastbound side of Township Line Road. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow more time for travel along the detour route because significant backups and slowdowns may occur.

This closure will allow PennDOT’s contractor to complete the full depth reconstruction of the roadway pavement on the west leg of the U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Township Line Road intersection, as well as the full depth reconstruction of the center and westbound lanes between U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Swede Road.

Once the detour for Township Line Road is lifted on Tuesday, June 16, work will begin to complete the reconstruction of a section of Germantown Pike and the east leg of the U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Township Line Road intersection.

Beginning on Wednesday, June 17, Germantown Pike between Mill Road and Hannah Avenue will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction 24/7 through Thursday, October 1. Traffic shifts will also occur through the work zone as the roadway is reconstructed and restored.

The east leg of the U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Township Line Road intersection will also be reconstructed this summer and early fall utilizing traffic shifts while maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction.

This project is a critical part of a comprehensive, multi-phase program to reconstruct, widen and improve travel on a 9.1-mile section of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and selected intersections between Johnson Highway in Norristown and Route 309 in Montgomery Township.
