King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that major construction has been completed on the $15.4 million project to replace the bridge that carries South Creek Road (Route 100) over the East Penn Railroad and Brandywine Creek in Pennsbury Township, Chester County and Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County. The bridge and roadway were reopened at 4:40 PM today.
While major construction has been completed, motorists will encounter periodic single lane closures through late 2025 to allow PennDOT’s contractor to perform final construction activities.
The bridge had been closed since April 1, 2024, to allow PennDOT’s contractor to replace the existing 27-foot-wide, 99-year-old structure with a new, two-lane, slightly wider, six-span pre-cast reinforced concrete arch bridge.
In addition, an open steel bridge railing with concrete pilasters at the piers was installed to allow for scenic viewing. Other features on this project include recessed panels and new signage, plaques, and delineators.
The purpose of the project was to replace the poor condition bridge with a sustainable crossing that maintains and improves the link between communities and allows for a safe and efficient movement of traffic.
Haines & Kibblehouse, Inc. of Philadelphia, PA, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
