Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that paving and bridge repair operations will occur on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) under a $41.3 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges in the City of Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, October 6, through Monday, October 13, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a weeknight lane closure is scheduled on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in both directions between I-676 and Arch Street for paving.
- From 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, to 5:00 AM Thursday, October 9. The ramp from eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to eastbound I-676 will be closed and detoured for paving. Motorists will be directed to continue on eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at 30th Street, turn right onto Arch Street, turn left on to Market Street, and turn left on to Schuylkill Avenue to access the ramp to eastbound I-676.
- From 9:00 PM Monday, October 13, to 9:00 PM Friday, October 17, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed and detoured for concrete repair, milling, and paving. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour to access U.S. 1 (City Avenue).
- From 8:00 PM Friday, October 17, to 5:00 AM Monday, October 20, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) will be closed and detoured for bridge repair. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour to access U.S. 1 (City Avenue).
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near or through the work areas because significant backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
