King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is scheduled next week on northbound Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) under a $7.8 million project to repair the Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge in Norristown, Montgomery County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, northbound Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) will be reduced to one lane between Harding Boulevard/Spruce Street and Marshall Street for concrete work.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work area. All planned activities are weather dependent and may be postponed.
PennDOT’s contractor has substantially completed top-side work on the Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge and is finishing repairs to the under-side “arch barrels” that support the structure. Physical construction to the under-side is scheduled to be substantially completed in December 2025.
In addition to rehabilitating the bridge’s arch barrels, PennDOT reconstructed and widened Markley Street at the intersection; installed new adaptive traffic signals at the intersection; relocated the sanitary sewer and water mains; installed new curbs and sidewalks and ADA curb ramps; and installed new signing and guide rails.
Rehabilitation of the Elm Street Arch Bridge wraps up more than 10 years of construction to improve the Markley Street/U.S.202 South corridor (Section 500) through the Borough of Norristown.
