Construction, Long-Term Traffic Pattern Planned Next Week on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction to set up a long-term traffic pattern for reconstruction at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange is planned at night next week on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, September 22, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound I-95 will be reduced to a single lane between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue (Route 73) interchanges for barrier installation and line painting.
  • Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, double lane closures will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for shoulder reconstruction.
  • Tuesday, September 23, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double left lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue (Route 73) interchanges for completion of construction barrier installation.

By Tuesday morning, September 23, the new, long-term traffic pattern will reduce northbound I-95 to three lanes for peak hour travel through the work zone.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The work is part of PennDOT’s $355.3 million I-95/BR3 project to widen and reconstruct northbound I-95 between Wheatsheaf Lane to just north of Margaret Street.
