Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues to treat roadways in the northcentral region following the exit of Winter Storm Fern. Crews will continue to treat primary and secondary routes until all state roads are clear, and then will clear shoulder areas and sidewalks under state jurisdiction.
The public can see local plow-truck statuses – along with travel conditions and traffic information – at www.511PA.com.
Property owners are encouraged to clear sidewalks and pathways as quickly as possible to keep themselves and other pedestrians safe. When shoveling snow near roadways, remember to wear bright colors or reflective clothing so drivers can see you.
Parents and caregivers are reminded to not allow children to play in snowbanks near roadways. Drivers may not be able to see them when clearing snow. Additionally, the weight of plowed snow can crush snow tunnels and forts, potentially trapping children playing inside.
Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras.
511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
