Mifflintown, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on a highway resurfacing project in Juniata and Mifflin counties. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the life of approximately 12 miles of roadway in Lack Township in Juniata County, Granville Township in Mifflin County, and Lewistown Borough.
The contractor will begin paving operations on Route 3004 (Big Ridge Road) tomorrow, June 9. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution, to be alert for construction vehicles making sudden stops, and not to follow construction vehicles into the closed lane as they deliver material.
Additionally, the contractor will continue to replace ADA-compliant handicap ramps on Route 3005 (Bratton Avenue) between Fourth Street and Big Ridge Road in Lewistown Borough. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control, but PennDOT expects traffic impacts to be minimal. The contractor expects to complete this work by midweek.
Overall work on this project includes highway resurfacing, drainage improvements, guide rail replacement, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Grannas Brothers Stone and Asphalt Co., Inc., of Hollidaysburg, PA, is the contractor on this $2.8 million project. PennDOT anticipates completion by early September. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
