Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that rehabilitation work on the Mifflin County Veterans Memorial Bridge that spans the Juniata River along Route 103 in Lewistown Borough and Granville Township will resume on Monday, February 23. This work will improve the ride quality over the bridge, extend its service life, and improve its overall condition rating from fair to good.
The work beginning Monday will consist of excavation work and installing jacking towers to lift the bridge. It will not impact traffic, but the contractor will need to remove portions of the Victory Park Memorial. PennDOT assures residents it will restore all aspects of this memorial to their original condition once it has completed the bridge rehabilitation.
Starting early in March, PennDOT will begin work to replace the bridge bearings of the structure, which will require the contractor to reduce traffic to a single lane across the bridge. Traffic signals will be set to flash and flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control at intersections around the clock while this work is completed. PennDOT will issue an update before this work begins.
While the work is in progress, pedestrians are urged to stay clear of the overhead work area near the Victory Park Mural. Drivers are also reminded to exercise caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
Work on this project began in 2025. During construction, PennDOT encountered conditions that warranted more extensive repairs than originally anticipated.
In total, four bridges will see work as part of this contract. Work on a Route 4001 bridge in Clinton County started earlier this construction season. Two others in Juniata County will also see work later this construction season. Rylind Construction Company, Inc. of Muncy, PA, is the contractor on this $5 million contract.
