PennDOT, Safety Partners Stress Sober Driving for Halloween at Penn Highlands Elk

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Highway Safety Network (HSN), and the Pennsylvania DUI Association partnered with Penn Highlands Elk and local law enforcement on Thursday to promote sober driving during the Halloween Impaired Driving Campaign.

Officers from Ridgway and St. Marys Police Departments, as well as the Elk County Sherriff’s Office spoke with participants about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.

Penn Highlands staff were invited to operate an impaired driving simulator that illustrates the risks of driving under the influence. Staff from Penn Highlands’ Trauma Prevention provided nonalcoholic “mocktails.”

“The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is among our primary objectives," said Dorie Zuchowski, CEN, RN, Emergency Department/ Trauma Manager for Penn Highlands Elk. "We are hosting this event to call attention to the dangers of impaired driving and to offer tasty alternatives to alcoholic beverages."

A state-wide Halloween Impaired Driving Campaign kicked off on October 10, and runs through Halloween.
