Route 356 Bridge Replacement Begins Next Week in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that a portion of Route 356 is scheduled to close Thursday morning, June 6, from Route 4048 (Melwood Road/Hyde Park Road) to the Route 4054 (La Belle Vue Road) roundabout in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.

Only local traffic will be permitted to travel Route 356 northbound to Route 4054 (La Belle Vue Road). All other traffic, including heavy trucks and wide loads, must follow the 12.4 mile posted detour – map attached – using Route 66, Route 56, and Route 4048 (Hyde Park Road). The closure is anticipated through the end of August depending on weather and operations.

Crews from Ligonier Construction Company will be replacing the bridge carrying Route 356 over Pine Run with a precast reinforced concrete rigid frame structure. An additional left turning lane will be added heading northbound on Route 356 to help alleviate traffic congestion at the Route 4048 (Melwood Road/Hyde Park Road) intersection.

This work is part of a $7.7M infrastructure investment which includes the new roundabout constructed at the intersection of Route 356 and Route 4054 (La Belle Vue Road), the realignment of Route 356 and Route 4054 (La Belle Vue Road), milling and pavement overlays, storm water maintenance, and signal upgrades to the existing signal located at the intersection Route 356 and Route 4048 (Melwood Road/Hyde Park Road). The project is anticipated to be complete in May 2025.
