Interstate 79 North Continuous 24-Hour Lane Restriction Begins Saturday in Washington County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing planned single-lane restrictions on Interstate 79 North, between Exit 38 (I-70 West, Wheeling, WV) in South Strabane Township and Exit 41 (Race Track Road), in Chartiers Township, Washington County.

The northbound passing lane will be restricted, around the clock, beginning Saturday, August 24, 7:00 PM, until Wednesday, August 28, 6:00 AM. The same restriction is scheduled for the travel lane from Saturday evening, September 7 to Wednesday morning, September 11.

Outside these dates, overnight (8:00 PM-6:00 AM) single-lane restrictions – alternating northbound and southbound – are anticipated through early November.

Crews from Swank Construction are performing resurfacing and concrete rehabilitation along this 2.5-mile span of I-79 in southwestern Pennsylvania -- a $5M infrastructure preservation investment. All work depends on weather and operations.

Work includes concrete patching, dowel retrofit, full depth corner repair, and spall repair of mainline concrete. There will be improvements made to drainage facilities and earth mounds placed between north and southbound travel lanes. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) will be updated and connected to the regional network. Bridge decks will be repaired, and bridge seals will be replaced. New signing, delineation, and guide rail will be installed on the mainline of I-79. Completion is expected in early November.

Remain alert and follow the posted signs and speed limits. Safety is everyone's responsibility.
