PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients

Indiana, PA – At a ceremony yesterday, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll recognized 30 PennDOT employees for their outstanding performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT’s highest recognition. 2 employees from PennDOT’s District 10 which represents Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana and Jefferson counties were among the honorees.

“Every day, I am reminded of our employees’ dedication, their excellent customer service, and in many cases, their sacrifices,” said Carroll. “The accomplishments of our Stars of Excellence exemplify PennDOT’s mission to provide the very best transportation services to Pennsylvanians every day.

Local winners Aaron Raible of Fenelton and Greg Schnur of Butler were honored yesterday at an awards luncheon at the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg.

“Aaron and Greg are always looking for ways to improve our processes and integrate innovative practices into our work,” said District Executive, Brian Allen. “They are both dedicated employees and we value their strong commitment to our district.”

Aaron Raible is the Highway Maintenance Manager in Armstrong County. He is involved with initiatives such as the Executive Safety Council, State Transportation Innovation Council, and Safety Award Committee. Aaron played a key-role in the implementation of Dash Cams in trucks and the Air Foil device. The Air Foil is an attachment that is mounted on the top of plow trucks and directs air onto the backside of the truck while the truck is in motion, which keeps the truck clean. The benefits include safety features such as increased visibility for the driver and motorists, less time spent cleaning the tailgates and more time on the roadways, as well as increasing the longevity of equipment.

Greg Schnur is a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor who manages our most complicated construction projects, mentors new Civil Engineers and inspectors, serves as the lead construction guiderail mentor, and assists with training in the construction unit and District. Greg is involved with recruiting and retaining new engineers through several events.  He is recognized in the district as a strong leader, mentor, and model employee.

The Star of Excellence Awards are presented annually to employees who represent the department’s values of service, performance and integrity. The recipients represent a variety of organizational positions, spanning from highway maintenance and driver and vehicle services workers, to traffic control specialists, engineers and more.
