Crawford County Resident Aaron Fox Named New Assistant District Executive of Maintenance for PennDOT's Northwest Region

​Aaron Fox has been appointed to the position of Assistant District Executive for Maintenance for the northwestern region of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). 

In his new position, Fox is responsible for nearly 600 employees within the PennDOT District 1 maintenance unit, which serves Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties. He will oversee maintenance activities and winter services on more than 3,600 miles of roadway and over 2,000 state-owned bridges.   

"Aaron is a dedicated leader who has consistently shown his commitment to pushing himself and those around him forward for the advancement of the department," District 1 Executive Brian McNulty, P.E., said. "He understands the many challenges our maintenance employees face including staffing levels, budget constraints, and aging infrastructure. But in his 26 years with PennDOT Aaron has never backed down from difficult challenges. I am certain that in his new role he will continue to lead, as he has in the past, with an emphasis on building strong teams, working hard, and always doing the right thing with the resources available." 

Fox began his PennDOT journey as an Engineering Technician in 1997. Over the years, he's held various positions including Transportation Construction Inspector, Supervisor, and then Manager. After 13 years with the Construction Unit, Fox took a position as an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager first in Venango County then in Crawford County. In 2014, he was promoted to the Senior Highway Maintenance Manager in Crawford County. He has been the Acting Senior Highway Maintenance Manager in Mercer County since April 2023. 

Fox is a 1996 graduate of Penn State Behrend and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

In addition to his work at PennDOT, he served in the military in the US Army Reserves 319th Engineer Co. in Butler from 1993-2001. 

Fox resides in Meadville, Crawford County.  

Zach Miles will serve as the Acting Senior Highway Maintenance Manager in Mercer County and Jason Warner has been filling in as the Acting Senior Highway Maintenance Manager in Crawford County.
