The final phase of a project to improve safety on 5 miles of Interstate 80 in East Lackawannock Township and Lackawannock Township, Mercer County has restarted.
Work got underway today on the installation of flashing warning devices and signs and minor guide rail updates along the eastbound lanes of I-80 between mile markers 10 and 15. Some work will require temporary shoulder closures and lane restrictions.
Portions of the project completed in 2025 included asphalt and concrete paving patches and grooving of the concrete pavement to prevent skidding at designated locations along the eastbound and westbound lanes between the mile marker 10 and the mile marker 15.
The final phase of the project is expected to wrap early in the 2026 construction season.
The contractor is IA Construction Corporation of Franklin, PA. The contract cost is $2,258,777.77, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and temporary lane restrictions and anticipate travel delays during active work hours.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
