Route 6 Bridge Project in Crawford County to Start Soon

Detour Expected to Begin April 6, 2026

A $6.9 million project to replace the bridge that carries Route 6 over French Creek in Woodcock and Hayfield townships, Crawford County is scheduled to get underway the week of March 23, 2026.

The bridge is located between the intersection with the Morris Road and the intersection with Black Road, approximately 2 miles southwest of Saegertown.

The project is to remove and replace the existing metal truss bridge, including the pier, with a new concrete structure. Work will also include milling and paving the roadway on each side of the bridge, and updated roadway painting, guide rail, and drainage.

Major construction is expected to begin April 6, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The project will require a vehicle detour, which will be posted using Interstate 79 and Route 198. It is expected to be in place from April 6, 2026, through October 23, 2026.

As Route 6 is a Pennsylvania designated bike route, a detour for cyclists will also be posted using Route 198, Park Avenue Extension (Route 1001), and East Cole Road.

The existing truss bridge was built in 1937. It is rated in poor condition. Approximately 7,100 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Palo Construction of Clarion PA. The contract cost is $6,933,024, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

This is the second truss bridge in this section of Route 6 to be replaced. The bridge located just south of Saegertown was replaced in 2025.
