Interstate 79 Northbound Reopen in Crawford County

Speed Limit Reductions Lifted on All Interstates in Northwest Region

All lanes of Interstate 79 northbound in Crawford County have reopened to traffic following a crash earlier today involving a tractor trailer.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has also lifted the speed limit and right-lane-only commercial vehicle restrictions that were in place on I-79 and Interstate 80 in the northwest region.

Due to the winter storm impacting the region, speed limits were temporarily reduced to 45 mph on the highways. All speeds are now restored to their usual posted limits in PennDOT’s District 1, which includes Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties.

Speed limit restrictions remain in place on interstates in other parts of the state. Drivers are encouraged to utilize www.511PA.com for more details.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, and they will not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras.
