The project to construct a multimodal trail for cyclists and pedestrians along Route 208 in Springfield Township, Mercer County began today.
The project will expand the existing multimodal trail as part of an effort to improve safety and enhance connectivity along the corridor and create a regional multimodal trail throughout the township and county.
The project is being done through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Springfield Township and is the second phase of the Springfield Township Multimodal Trail.
This phase includes the construction nearly a half mile of multimodal trail to accommodate two-way pedestrian/bicycle traffic parallel to Route 208 (Leesburg-Grove City Road).
The trail will run north side of the roadway from Holiday Boulevard at the entrance for TimberCreek Tap & Table to American Way at the entrance for Wendell August Forge.
Construction began, April 10, 2024, and is expected to be completed by October 2024.
The majority of the work will happen off of the roadway, but motorists may encounter temporary lane restrictions to facilitate construction.
The contractor for the trail project is CH&D Enterprises, Inc., of New Stanton, PA. The contract cost is $613,333, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
