Dunmore, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display regarding the Route 239 Over Little Wapwallopen Creek Bridge Project. This plans display will be held online.
The structure is located on Route 239 (Miner Street) over Little Wapwallopen Creek, approximately 1.7 miles north of Wapwallopen and 3.0 miles south of Mocanaqua.
The purpose of this project is to address the structural deficiency of the existing structure due to its age and condition, and to provide safer and more efficient access over Little Wapwallopen Creek. The existing single span steel girder open grate bridge will be replaced with a single span PA bulb-tee beam bridge. Additional work includes but is not limited to approach roadway reconstruction and widening, guide rail improvements, grading, signing, and pavement markings. The reconstructed roadway and structure will accommodate an 11-foot lane with a 4-foot outside shoulder in each direction of travel.
Traffic will be maintained during construction with a two-lane temporary runaround on the downstream side of the structure.
The project is currently in the preliminary design phase and is planned to commence in 2028. It is anticipated that construction will begin in Spring 2029 and will be completed by Fall 2029.
The virtual plans display will be available online through June 15, 2026. Online information, including proposed detour route, detailed project information, and comment form, can be found by visiting the following PennDOT District 4-0 website: Route 239 Over Little Wapwallopen Creek Bridge Project | Department of Transportation | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
