Cambria County Contruction Update for May 11 through May 22, 2026

Lengthy Delays Expected through May 27 on Route 756 from Route 403 to Route 3016 in Johnstown, Cambria County, for a Pavement Resurfacing Project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers that lengthy delays, up to 15 minutes, will continue on Route 756 in Geistown and Lorain boroughs from Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 27, for a pavement resurfacing project.

Contractors will conduct milling operations and ADA ramp construction from Monday, May 11, through Monday, May 18, 2026, on Route 756 (Ohio Street/Bentwood Avenue/Belmont Street) from Route 3016 (Bedford Street) in Geistown Borough toward Route 403 (Central Avenue) in Lorain Borough.

From Thursday, May 19, to Wednesday, May 27, 2026, contractors will be paving from Route 403 (Central Avenue) in Loraine toward Route 3016 (Bedford Street) in Geistown. The project schedule is weather dependent.

Quaker Sales Corporation of Johnstown is the lead contractor for the $1,361,956.57 project to resurface Route 756 (Ohio Street/Bentwood Avenue/Belmont Street) between from Route 403 to Route 3016 (Bedford Street), which includes guide rail updates, tree trimming and removal, and maintenance of existing drainage. The overall project is scheduled for completion in June 2026.

 

Lane Closures and Delays Continue on Route 756 (Bedford Street/Elton Road) from Luther Road in Geistown Borough to Industrial Park Road in Richland Township, Cambria County, May 11 through May 24

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers the potential for lengthy delays on Route 756 (Bedford Street/Elton Road) between Luther Road in Geistown Borough to Industrial Park Road in Richland Township, Cambria County, from Monday, May 11, through Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Drivers can expect lane closures with flaggers and delays up to fifteen (15) minutes on Route 756 (Bedford Street/Elton Road) for utility (water/gas) relocation near the intersections with Vo-Tech Drive, Industrial Park Road and Theatre Drive.

Also planned is traffic signal and bridge lighting work between U.S. 219 northbound and southbound on and off ramps and Luther Road. Utility companies may also be performing utility pole and line relocation on Route 756 (Elton Road) between Vo-Tech Drive and Industrial Park Road during the same dates.

The potential also exists for utility pole and line relocation by Penelec to cause delays on Route 756 (Bedford Street/Elton Road) at the intersections with Leventry Road, Oakridge Drive, Macridge Avenue, Vo-Tech Drive and Industrial Park Road.

A Liberoni, Inc., Plum, Pa., is the lead contractor for the two-year, 2.5-mile, $9,473,117.05 Route 756 resurfacing project, which includes paving/resurfacing, sight distance and intersection safety improvements, the addition of left turning lanes, improved drainage, shoulder widening, the inclusion of bicycle-safe grates and the replacement of traffic signals and overhead signs. 

 

Long-term Lane Restrictions Continue on U.S. 22 (William Penn Highway) from Route 164 Munster-Portage Exit to the Route 53 Cresson-Lilly Exit Continue May 11 to May 22    

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers of minor delays on U.S. 22 (William Penn Highway) from the Route 164 Munster-Portage Exit to the Route 53 Cresson-Lilly Exit in Cambria County from Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 22, 2026, as a resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation project continues.

Drivers can expect minor delays (3-5 minutes) on U.S. 22 in Munster and Cresson townships with single-lane restrictions shifting from the left-passing lane to the right-travel lane in both the eastbound and westbound lanes from the Route 164 Munster-Portage Exit to the Route 53 Cresson-Lilly Exit.

On Tuesday, May 12, the lead contractor will shift the lane closure from the (current) left-passing lane to the right-travel lane and shoulder of U.S. 22 (William Penn Highway) from one (1) mile past the Route 164 Munster-Portage Exit to the Route 53 Cresson Exit. Along with the right-travel lane closure, a 13-feet width restriction will be in place, prohibiting vehicles wider than 13-feet to travel between the exits.

Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc., Hollidaysburg, Pa., is the lead contractor for the $11,564,159.00 project which includes pavement resurfacing, guide rail upgrades, drainage maintenance, and rehabilitation of both the bridge carrying Route 53 (West 2nd Street) over U.S. 22 and the bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-November 2026.

 

Single-lane Restrictions Planned for U.S. 219 for Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Richland Township, Cambria County, May 11 through May 22   

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers the single-lane restrictions on U.S. 219 under the Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) in Richland Township, Cambria County, continue Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 22, 2026.

U.S. 219 under the Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) bridge will remain under single-lane restrictions with traffic limited to the left-passing lanes northbound and southbound. Both the northbound and southbound right-travel lanes closed. Mt. Airy Drive remains closed with traffic using a 2.9-mile detour on Route 3033 (Solomon Run Road), Route 3031 (Galleria Drive) and Oakridge Drive.

J.F. Shea Construction, Inc., Mount Pleasant, Pa., is the lead contractor for the $2,257,170 Route 3104 (Mt. Airy Drive) over U.S. 219 Bridge Rehabilitation Project, which involves the complete replacement of the bridge superstructure (the deck, girders, and beams above the substructure) and repairs to the substructure (the columns, abutments and/or foundation that carries the bridge load). Minor approach roadway paving to tie into the structure along with guide rail updates will be included. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2026.
