PennDOT Announces Online Plan Display for Route 209 Culvert Replacement Project in Dauphin County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plan display regarding Route 209 Culvert Replacement in Dauphin County. The structure carries Route 209 over the tributary to Wiconisco Creek between State Drive and Engle Road in Washington Township.

The proposed project will replace a stream culvert in a two lane, two-way section of Route 209. This will include excavation and removal of the old culvert, installation of a pre-cast concrete box culvert, pavement reconstruction, and guide rail improvements. The culvert will be constructed in half widths while maintaining bi-directional traffic utilizing the nearby State Drive roadway to maintain southbound traffic while northbound traffic remains on Route 209.

The project is currently in design, and construction work is expected to take place sometime in the late 2026 and/or early 2027 construction seasons. The duration of construction is anticipated to last 3 months.

A digital version of the project plans and information will be available to view online through June 2, 2025. The hard copy plans will also be available for review at the Washington Township Municipal Building through June 2, as well.

Information, including bridge plans and an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website, PennDOT District 8, clicking Projects Near You listed on the left side of the page, then the District 8 Projects, and choosing Route 209 Culvert Replacement at Wiconisco Creek Tributary.
