Route 422 (Main Street) to be Closed in Palmyra Borough, Lebanon County, Due to Sinkhole

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that Route 422 (Main Street) in Palmyra Borough, Lebanon County, will be closed this afternoon between Prince Street and Duke Street due to the development of a sinkhole in the eastbound lanes.

A lane restriction is currently in place on eastbound Route 422. Following further investigation, the decision was made to shut down the entire roadway for the safety of motorists until repairs can be completed.

Once the road is completely closed, a detour will be in place using Route 117, Route 322 and Route 934.

PennDOT is developing a repair plan and expects to have a contractor on site sometime tonight to begin work. It is unclear how long the road will remain closed.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc. of New Enterprise, PA, will perform the work through a PennDOT highway maintenance contract.
