District 6 Projects - Chester County

St. Peters Road Retaining Wall Project

Step 3 of 4

Construction

Next Step:  Completion

Project Overview

County: Chester County
Municipality: Warwick Township
State Route: Route 4041
Local Name: St. Peters Road
Project Type: Slope Failure Stabilization
Last Updated: May 2026

This project will install a retaining wall along St. Peters Road within St. Peters Village in Warwick Township, Chester County.

Erosion of the steep slope between St. Peters Road and French Creek has created unstable conditions in the roadway embankment.

In June 2022, a concrete barrier was placed to protect St. Peters Road travelers from the deteriorating conditions. The remaining one lane of roadway was open to traffic with stop sign-controlled approaches. Inspections at that time showed additional slope deterioration, and that an additional 432 feet of concrete barrier was needed, along with a long-term detour of southbound traffic from the Village.

In April 2025, an emergency proclamation was obtained to allow for the placement of the additional concrete barrier. The proclamation also allowed PennDOT to use existing contracts to pursue a design-build approach to construct a permanent retaining wall to stabilize the roadway embankment.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of King of Prussia, Pa., is the general contractor on this project.
