May 3-9 is National Travel and Tourism Week.
Keystone Welcome Centers saw 2.6 million visitors last year.
Harrisburg, PA – Today, following the start of summer tourism season with the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced its 14 Welcome Centers will be hosting National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) events through May 9. Tourism partners will promote their businesses in-person to Welcome Center customers via displays, giveaways and information tables. Partners include privately-owned Pennsylvania tourism attractions as well as state and national parks and museums.
The 2026 Pennsylvania tourism season – including the NFL Draft, PGA Championship, FIFA World Cup, MLB All-Star Series and America250PA – is expected to bring more than 209 million travelers to the Commonwealth. For many of them, PennDOT’s Keystone Welcome Centers will be their first stop in Pennsylvania.
“Pennsylvania is rolling out the red carpet for visitors from around the world,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “Our Welcome Center teams are ready to help travelers make the most of their visit to Pennsylvania.”
For many out-of-state travelers, PennDOT’s Keystone Welcome Centers serve as the gateway to Pennsylvania, delivering the first impression of the state to millions of visitors every year. Welcome Centers also offer complimentary tourism services, including lodging and restaurant reservations, among other services. In 2025, Keystone Welcome Centers assisted 2.6 million visitors.

Welcoming the World to Pennsylvania in 2026
Pennsylvania is primed to be in the national spotlight in 2026 as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia and host major events.
The Commonwealth will leverage global sporting and cultural moments, including the NFL Draft, the PGA Championship, the FIFA World Cup, America250PA, and the MLB All-Star Game, to drive interest in Pennsylvania, encourage visitors to come back for future trips, and spur statewide economic impact.
These events will be huge tourism and economic development opportunities for the Commonwealth, as millions of people prepare to visit Pennsylvania. Over the last three years, Governor Shapiro has rebranded Pennsylvania as the “Great American Getaway” and increased funding for Visit PA to nearly $60 million.
