Upper Providence Township, PA – Today, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll joined District 6 and local officials along U.S. 422 in Montgomery County to highlight many of the 73 projects expected to begin construction this year, as well as the 124 projects that will continue across the greater Philadelphia region. These investments support Governor Josh Shapiro’s vision of a safe and reliable transportation network that connects people to opportunity and each other.
“Southeast PA is a critical economic driver for the commonwealth, and our transportation network has to keep up,” said Secretary Carroll. “No matter the size of the project, PennDOT is making important investments to ensure that people can get to where they’re going safely and efficiently.”
PennDOT anticipates investing an additional $500 million in the region this year, which spans Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. This investment includes rehabilitating, reconstructing, and resurfacing more than 345 miles of highways and repairing, replacing, and preserving 39 bridges, which equates to nearly one million square feet of bridge deck. Under Governor Shapiro’s Administration, 19,451 miles of roads have been improved and work has advanced on 1,757 state and local bridges. Additionally, PennDOT has repaired the second most poor-condition bridges of any state in the entire country.
“From large scale corridor-wide programs and intersection improvement projects to road resurfacing, rehabilitating bridges and performing core maintenance operations, we’re focused on enhancing the safety and efficiency of our vast transportation network,” said PennDOT District 6 Executive Din Abazi.
Projects like the Interstate 95 CAP project in Philadelphia, the widening of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway)in Delaware County, and the resurfacing of a 4.2-mile section of U.S. 422 in Montgomery County, demonstrate PennDOT’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, well-maintained roads for the public.
Because of the 2025-26 state budget signed by Governor Shapiro, PennDOT is also investing $37.5 million this state fiscal year to pave and preserve less traveled, often rural roads in 20 counties. This roadwork is made possible through Motor License Fund investments redirected from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) while ensuring PSP’s critical mission continues. After completing short-term repairs on U.S. 422 in Montgomery County the past two years, PennDOT is investing $6.2 million this year to fully pave and extend the life of 4.2 miles of road between the Routes 29 (Phoenixville/Collegeville) and Royersford/Trappe interchanges in Limerick and Upper Providence townships.
As construction projects are underway in the region, drivers can anticipate seeing many work zones and are urged to keep in mind the safety of both them and highway workers. When encountering a work zone, please drive the posted speed limit, turn on your headlights, pay close attention to signs and flaggers, and avoid all distractions.
“Maintenance crews perform critical work every day, like pothole repair, paving, and drainage work to keep our roads safe and reliable,” said Assistant District Executive for Maintenance Tom Rogal. “In every work zone, safety must come first. Protecting workers and the traveling public is everyone’s responsibility.”
